As part of the project Preparation of the Legal and Substantive Framework for the Establishment and Operation of the National Regulatory Sandbox for Artificial Intelligence, a virtual meeting was held on January 24, 2025, with representatives of Danish authorities specializing in regulatory sandboxes for artificial intelligence. Members of the project's research team also attended the meeting to learn about Danish experiences in this field.
During the meeting, Danish experts presented the operation of their regulatory sandbox, which enables testing and improving technologies before their introduction to the market, with a primary focus on GDPR compliance. They emphasized that participation in the sandbox does not imply automatic approval by regulators and explained that the process is free of charge and takes approximately one year. As an example, they highlighted the first call of their regulatory sandbox in 2024, during which two projects were selected for in-depth review out of many applications.
The discussion provided the research team with valuable insights into the specifics of Danish practices, which will significantly contribute to the development of an effective regulatory sandbox in Slovenia.
